Exclusive announcement: The Oxford Indie Book Fair 2023

Dear

We're writing to you with some very exciting news.

As you probably know, the Oxford Indie Book Fair is a staple in the Oxford arts events calendar, alongside the more well-known Oxford Festival of the Arts and the Oxford Lieder Festival.

This year’s event will take place on Sunday 26th November. Thanks to the support of philanthropist Felicity Dick and the Lucy Group, we’re expanding our celebration of indie writers, publishers and artists by holding it in the iconic Examinations Schools, on High Street opposite The Queen’s College.

We wanted a venue that was in the heart of Oxford, with the added bonus of being easy to access via public transport!

As well, we have two new members of our organising committee who bring experience and connections to help us take this next invigorating step: Felicity Dick, whom we've mentioned above, and Shona Nicholson, whose background includes fundraising, events and marketing work at the University of Oxford (most recently Harris Manchester College) and the Oxford Playhouse.

Alongside a vast area for authors and publishers (over twice the previous space), there will be digital displays, an open presentation area with a gigantic screen and a fabulous line-up of speaker sessions. In addition to this, we are laying on a quiet area just outside the main hall with comfortable seating for reading and networking.

On Wednesday 23rd August the newly refurbished website will open with the release of a limited number of exhibitor passes for exclusive advance booking to you, our supporters and newsletter subscribers. Using our bespoke booking system you will be able to choose your table location, pay for it, and add your own profile to the website for use on the programme. We’ll explain everything when booking opens.

One week later, we will make a public announcement of the event date and open exhibitor booking to everyone else.

The stand fee will rise very slightly to £45, which includes many additional benefits, such as:

  • Vastly improved exhibition location with numerous additional facilities.
  • Free access to the networking centre we are developing:
    • Access to other indies and professionals in the industry.
    • The ability to include information about your books, launches, art exhibitions, poetry slams, guided walks and courses, etc on our website for all to see.
    • A search engine for you to find illustrators, editors, printers, designers, publishers and generally connect with other members of the Oxford indie community.
  • A complimentary exhibitor’s table at the Oxford Festival of the Arts in July 2024 (spaces permitting).

We are excited by our new venue, additional organising committee members, the generosity of the Lucy Group and this inspiring next step in our development.

Looking forward to seeing you in November!

Andy, Sylvia, James, Shona, Ray and Felicity.
